Meet Our Spring 2026 Coaches
The Grant Lacrosse coaching staff is committed to developing complete student-athletes—players who grow in skill, confidence, and character both on and off the field. Our program emphasizes a growth mindset, encouraging players to challenge themselves, try new skills, and step into the uncomfortable moments where real development happens. Players are supported as they learn, grow, and push each other to improve every day.
Across Varsity and Junior Varsity, our coaches focus on building strong fundamentals, sharpening stick skills and decision-making, and developing the lacrosse IQ needed to read the game, anticipate opportunities, and think ahead as plays develop.
A key part of the Grant Lacrosse program is the connection between teams. Practices often bring the full program together, allowing younger players to learn from experienced teammates while building a culture of leadership, mentorship, and shared accountability.
With a mix of playing experience, coaching knowledge, and a passion for teaching the game, the Grant Lacrosse coaching staff works to create an environment where players compete hard, support one another, and continue building a program centered on growth, teamwork, and a love for lacrosse.
Henry Ling - Varsity Head Coach
Henry Ling has coached with the Grant Generals since 2017. During that time, the program has grown from a middle-of-the-pack team into a consistently competitive top program in Oregon. Henry has represented his home country of New Zealand in three World Championship Lacrosse tournaments and was a four-sport athlete during his high school years.
Outside of lacrosse, Henry works at adidas as a footwear developer, focusing on 3D engineering and product creation on the collaboration side of the business. Henry is passionate about developing high school athletes both on and off the field, helping them become fierce competitors while also respecting their teammates, opponents, and the game.
Tarin Storm – Varsity Assistant Coach
Tarin Storm has been helping grow the game of lacrosse across Oregon since 2019. A program builder and coach, he has worked with athletes at every level—from youth beginners to varsity and national-level club teams—bringing a fast-paced training style focused on building competitive confidence and strong lacrosse IQ.
A Vanderbilt alum, Tarin is the owner of Thump Lacrosse and the Sisters Annual Lacrosse Invitational (SALI), and currently serves as Program Director at Lacrosse Hub NW. At the high school level, Tarin’s coaching is grounded in mentorship. He believes the practice field and sideline are where young athletes learn to lead, compete with integrity, and hold themselves and their teammates to a high standard.
Kevin Mealy – Varsity Assistant Coach
Kevin Mealy began playing lacrosse in Portland in 2010 with Eastside Portland Lacrosse (EPL). After five years with EPL, he went on to play at Grant High School, where he also competed in soccer and basketball. Kevin strongly believes in the value of multi-sport athletes and encourages players to continue exploring other sports alongside lacrosse.
After graduating from Grant and taking a break during the COVID-19 years, Kevin returned to the field with the Oregon Men’s Lacrosse Club while earning a degree in Business Administration from the University of Oregon. During that time, he also taught pottery, studied abroad in Australia, and developed his small business, Irvington Ceramics. Kevin now focuses on coaching and helping players grow both on and off the field.
Sam Skelton – Varsity Defensive Coordinator
Sam Skelton began playing lacrosse with Eastside Portland Lacrosse (EPL) in 4th grade. After his youth career, he attended Cleveland High School before transferring to Grant for his senior year, where he rediscovered his love for the game.
Sam continued his lacrosse career at Illinois Wesleyan University, where he earned 2× First Team All-Conference honors, 1× All-Region recognition, and was named a USILA Scholar All-American. After graduating, work brought Sam back to Portland, where he decided to pursue coaching. As Grant’s Varsity Defensive Coordinator, Sam looks forward to sharing his passion for the game and helping players develop not only as strong athletes but also as leaders and teammates.
Michael Cerna – Goalie Coach
Michael Cerna grew up outside of Houston, Texas, where he was introduced to lacrosse in 6th grade. When his team needed a goalie, he stepped into the position and remained in the crease for the next 12 years. Michael played at Clear Lake High School before continuing his career as a goalie at the University of Texas at Austin.
After graduating in 2021, Michael began coaching as a private goalie trainer and middle school assistant coach. In 2022, he moved to Portland and began working with Team Oregon and Eastside Portland Lacrosse. This will be his first season with Grant High School, and he is excited to help develop the next generation of goalies and give back to the game that has given him so much.
Andre Morris Jr (Dre) – Jr Varsity Head Coach
Andre Morris Jr., known as Dre, grew up in Wilsonville, Oregon, where he discovered lacrosse during his freshman year at Wilsonville High School. From his sophomore through senior seasons, he played under Grant’s current varsity head coach, Henry Ling—an experience that helped shape his love for the game.
Andre continued his lacrosse career at Southern Oregon University, where he spent three years as a two-way midfielder and face-off specialist. His passion for the sport led him into coaching, beginning with youth programs and a brief return to SOU as a coach. Now in his second year as Grant’s Junior Varsity Head Coach, Dre is excited to continue building the program while helping players develop their skills, confidence, and love for the game.
Trevor Thompson – Jr Varsity Coordinator
Trevor Thompson is originally from Sacramento, California, and has been playing lacrosse for more than 13 years. He played attack at CSU–Pueblo in Colorado, competing at the NCAA Division II level for five seasons.
Trevor began coaching while still in high school, helping with his local youth program, and has continued coaching ever since. He also works with Team Oregon during the summer club season. After college, Trevor moved to the Pacific Northwest and is excited to be part of the Grant Lacrosse program for the 2026 season. Outside of lacrosse, he enjoys spending time outdoors, including hiking, snowboarding, and exploring the mountains and rivers of the region.
